Volunteer Opportunities

There are many ways to be involved at Generations......and volunteers are needed and appreciated. You can get involved today by completing the Volunteer Information Sheet.  Also - be sure to print the Volunteer Information Packet.  Review the opportunities below and contact  Pat Wilbanks with your interest (or call 864-243-5557, ext. 274).

Volunteer Training

Generations uses volunteers for different activities.  To help their comfort level and ensure our rules are understood with the reasons behind them, we are asking all volunteers to take a "Volunteer Training" session. This will ensure for a more comfortable and safe time with the residents for all.

Our next overview/training is scheduled for Tuesday, April 23, 2013.  The overview will be at 5:45 pm - 6:30 pm and the Volunteer Training will be at 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm.  This will be held at Brookwood Church, 580 Brookwood Point Place, Simpsonville.

Please confirm attendance with Pat Wilbanks and complete the Volunteer Information Sheet if you are interested in attending.  If you have a group of 10 or more, and would like to schedule a training just for your group, let us know!

Volunteer Committee

If you have time and want to make a real difference, please consider joining our Volunteer Committee and help plan and facilitate activities throughout the year. We meet quarterly and have a great time brainstorming new ways to help promote Generations and to help our boys get the most out of their time in our program.  Help plan and coordinate activities for our boys! Our next Volunteer meeting will be...

Volunteer Visitors Program

Sometimes it's the time we give that means the most. The purpose of Volunteer Visitors is to provide opportunities for members of the community to come to our campus and spend some much appreciated time with a resident who does not receive many visits from his family due to the distance they must travel, or who may not even have much family involvement at all.  Volunteering is easy - just start by making that first contact!

Host a Star Party

Each Friday Generations has a party! All our boys who have earned this party, based on behavior through the week, will attend. This is an excellent opportunity for your group to come and spend 2 hours with the boys in a fun and interactive activity. Some favorite things have been karaoke, bingo, adult tricycle races, sports competitions, and pizza & a movie.  It can include a meal, or just an activity with a treat and beverage.

Motivational Speakers

Speakers are requested for events like Black History Month, Fire Prevention Month, etc. Or, if you have a topic of interest and can give us a few hours of your time, please let us know. We are always looking to expand our boys’ knowledge in any way possible.

Share a Skill

We sincerely appreciate the sharing of skills by community volunteers and invite you to introduce our boys to new skills and hobbies. Do you paint, knit, crochet, draw, build things, play an instrument, have a hobby or craft you'd like to share? We're open to new ideas and would love to hear from you!

Special Events

You can participate in special meals, birthday parties, holidays, festivals, etc. There are opportunities for bringing food and/or serving food to our boys. Take a look at our Upcoming Events. The boys always appreciate it when people from the community come out to support them.

Luncheon for Second Chances

You can share your time and resources to help make our Annual Luncheon for Second Chances a big success.  While our luncheon is typically scheduled in May of each year, we work actively through the year for Table Captains so they can be identifying guests for their table and inviting them to a Success Express Tour at GGH, or inviting a GGH speaker into your group to present an overview of our program. You can help spread the word about GGH and help us financially be able to continue this great work for our boys.
