The Cycle of Abuse is talked about often - but do we really understand it?
One 12 year old boy who is traveling down the wrong path in life can affect hundreds negatively during his life time. Hundreds! What does this really mean? This means that if we successfully redirect this 12 year old boy by giving him the tools to be a safe and productive member of our society; by giving him the education, independent living skills, and spirituality he needs to succeed; and, by working with the families, as appropriate, to ensure a successful future for this child, hundreds of others can be spared becoming part of the cycle of this one boy, preventing hundreds of other cycles from beginning.
Generations Group Homes, Inc. opened in 1991 with 12 boys. That first year over 40 boys were turned away who needed Generations? Program because we were full. Due to the need, we have grown over the years and are now a Nationally Accredited nonprofit residential group home working with up to 58 troubled adolescent boys (ages 10 ? 19) who are caught in the terrible cycle of abuse with an average stay of 18 ? 24 month period per child.
Our boys, placed through Department of Social Services, Department of Mental Health, Continuum of Care, and Department of Juvenile Justice, are the small percentage of children now caught in the abuse cycle by acting out inappropriate sexual behaviors with other children. Thanks to our caring and highly trained staff in our very structured program offering Treatment, Education, Recreational Therapy, Family Reunification, and Spiritual Development we have been 98% successful with the over 600 boys who have been through our program.
These boys come to us hopeless - and we give them hope. After a short time they start to feel safe in our staff secure environment, and begin to heal. Finally, they are able to return to their home communities as heroes - having broken the cycle of abuse.
